When the Pacas Family purchased Finca La Guachoca in 2009 it was quite rundown, but given the land’s location, altitude, and rich volcanic soil, they saw its potential. Named ‘La Guachoca’ after the pretty Guachoca bird often sighted in the area, the farm sits on the extinct Cerro Verde volcano between 1410 to 1600 masl.
An interesting variety, Pacamara is a hybrid between Maragogipe and Pacas (a variety discovered by and named after the Pacas family). It is prized for its exceptional cup quality but due to it not being genetically stable from one generation to the next (plants tend to regress to one of the parent varieties) it is quite challenging to grow.
