Fazenda do Engenho is located in the city of Carmo de Minas, in a micro-region in southern Minas Gerais. This micro-region is known worldwide for its natural conditions, favorable for growing excellent coffee; its fertile red volcanic soil, temperate climate, and just the right amount of rain, well distributed throughout the year, are what make Mantiqueira de Minas so special – so special in fact, in 2020 Mantiqueira de Minas was awarded a Designation of Origin, an important title that both protects the characteristics of coffees from the region and promotes Mantiqueira de Minas on the global stage. Â
Fazenda do Engenho is owned by Maria Célia and her children, after being passed down through Maria’s family. Established in the 1930s, it wasn’t until the early 2000s that Maria and her children began investing in the infrastructure necessary to produce quality coffees. Building new drying patios and storage warehouses, investing in new machinery and making improvements to post-harvest processing. It was a huge task, but one that has paid off numerous times over. Maria and her family continue to make improvements to their practices and approach. Â
