High in the Shakiso district of Guji, the Hadeso washing station works with around 500 smallholder producers growing coffee on tiny plots surrounding the station. Sitting at roughly 1,900–2,100 meters above sea level, this is prime coffee-growing country: high elevation, cool temperatures, and slow-ripening cherries that create the conditions for the sweet, floral coffees Guji is known for. Hadeso is operated by Testi Coffee, a family-owned Ethiopian producer and exporter founded by Faysel Abdosh. Testi operates washing stations across Ethiopia and works closely with the communities surrounding them, investing in clean water, education, infrastructure, and support for coffee-growing families. At Hadeso, ripe cherries are delivered by local producers before being carefully sorted, pulped, fermented, and washed. The coffee is then dried slowly on raised African beds, with plenty of attention along the way. The result is classic washed Ethiopia: clean, elegant, and beautifully sweet, with the floral character and bright citrus acidity that make coffees from Guji so distinctive.
