High in the mountains of Sidama, Arbegona is home to some seriously exciting coffee. Sitting around 2,200 meters above sea level, the cool climate and extreme elevation slow down cherry maturation, helping build the sweetness, density, and vibrant fruit character that makes coffees from this part of Ethiopia so special. This coffee comes through Tracon’s Arbegona washing station, where 652 smallholder farmers from the surrounding communities of Shemetanto and Bochesa deliver freshly picked coffee cherry. The farms here are small, and coffee is typically grown alongside food crops like enset, banana, citrus, and vegetables. At the station, ripe cherries are carefully sorted and floated to remove lower-density fruit before being laid out to dry slowly on raised African beds for around 20–25 days. This patient natural process allows all that incredible fruit character to develop while maintaining the clarity and structure we love in great Ethiopian coffee. Behind the coffee is Tracon Trading, a multi-generation Ethiopian coffee company working with thousands of producers across the country. With decades of experience in coffee production, processing, and export, Tracon operates washing stations throughout Ethiopia’s most celebrated growing regions, connecting smallholder producers with the global specialty coffee market.
