High in the mountains of Guji, the Greitu Korsa area is home to Solo Washing Station, operated by Assefa Dukamo Korma, one of the founders of Daye Bensa Coffee. Solo takes its name from the Sidamic word “Osolo,” meaning laughter—a fitting name for the vibrant community surrounding the station.
Around 150–200 smallholder farming families from nearby communities, including Wocho Sololo, Tabata, Mebocho, and Mender, deliver their freshly harvested cherries to Solo. Sitting at extremely high elevations, the area provides ideal conditions for slow cherry maturation and producing sweet, complex coffees.
Daye Bensa was founded by brothers Assefa and Mulugeta Dukamo in 1996, beginning as a small family operation in Bensa, Sidamo. Today, it has grown into one of Ethiopia’s leading coffee producers and exporters, working with thousands of smallholder farmers across an extensive network of washing stations and dry mills. Their focus on quality has earned repeated recognition at Ethiopia’s Cup of Excellence, including standout coffees from Hamasho and Shantawene.
This natural lot represents the ripest cherries delivered to Solo. After careful sorting, the cherries are spread across raised beds and regularly turned as they slowly dry, helping develop the clarity, sweetness, and fruit-forward character we love in great Ethiopian naturals.
