Tracon Trading PLC is one of the leading private companies in Ethiopia. Originally established to trade the unique Ethiopian spice, berbere – Tracon now works in a broad range of industries, including coffee. This micro-lot was sourced through Tracon’s Farmer Direct Traceability (FDT) Program. Because much of Ethiopia’s coffee is grown in small family gardens and then processed at centralized washing stations, it can be very difficult to source directly from individual producers. Tracon’s FDT Program was established to provide full traceability. Each bag of cherry delivered to the washing station is marked with a specific code, representing the GPS coordinates of the farm or specific plot. At all stages of processing, drying, and milling, coffees are separated.
This coffee was produced by Mr Tsegaye, his wife, and their 10 children. Together they farm a tiny 2.5-hectare garden in the town of Suke Werekata, and more specifically at 5°59'51.1"N 38°39'08.6"E. After delivery to Tracon’s washing station in Uraga, the coffee was processed as a traditional washed coffee – it's crisp and clean, with notes of citrus and stone fruit. A Classic.
