Ruera Estate is located in Kiambu County, where fertile red volcanic soils, gentle rolling hills and an elevation of 1,577 metres provide ideal conditions for growing exceptional coffee. Spanning more than 190 hectares, the estate has been a major employer in the region for decades, providing work for more than 1,000 people throughout the coffee production cycle.
Coffee is handpicked before being carefully sorted and pulped at the estate's wet mill. Fermentation is closely managed to preserve quality, while the parchment is dried using natural sunlight until it reaches the ideal moisture content for storage and export.
Sustainability is central to the estate's approach. Reforestation, soil conservation, responsible waste management and energy-saving initiatives all form part of daily operations. Alongside housing, healthcare and education for employees and their families, these long-term investments help strengthen both the coffee and the community that produces it.
