Ever since we started – way back in 2009, in a little corner of Melbourne, Australia – we've tried to buy the best coffees we can find, to share them with our community, and to build lasting and meaningful relationships.
Geisha Salad, our Deluxe blend, is the embodiment of that mission – containing Washed and Natural processed Geisha from some of our longest and most meaningful producer relationships from two spectacular regions in Central America.
Originally from Ethiopia, the Geisha variety found its way to Panama in the early 1960s – and there it stayed, largely unnoticed, until the Peterson family (of the famed Hacienda La Esmeralda) isolated the variety and entered it into the 2005 Best of Panama Competition. It’s fair to say, over the last 20+ years, the Geisha variety has taken the Specialty Coffee world by storm. Winning countless competitions, setting record-breaking prices at auctions, and being planted all over the coffee-producing world.
The first Geisha we ever purchased, back in 2011, was from the Hartmann family, in Santa Clara, Panama. The Hartmann family have both deep roots in Panamanian coffee (the farm was first established by Alois Hartmann in 1912), and a storied history of excellence (regularly placing at the top of the prestigious Best of Panama competition) - we’ve been buying coffee from the Hartmann family for more than a decade.
Honduras may not be at the top of many people’s list, when thinking about the origin of some of the best coffees in the world – but we’d like to respectfully disagree. There’s a small group of producers in the Santa Barbara region of Honduras, who are growing some exceptional coffees. We’ve been working with Benjamin Paz, Nahun Fernandez, Ovidio Gomez, and others since 2012 – and it’s remarkable to look back and see how far they’ve come. From very traditional varieties and processes, to exotic and experimentation, from simple delicious coffees to finalists in the Cup of Excellence.
With each of these producers, we have grown alongside them, shared wins, weathered tough seasons, and pushed each other to level up, Geisha Salad blends some of their best Washed and Natural processed Geisha – it's a celebration of a community we’re proud to be a part of.
How to Drink: Just like you wouldn't add soda to your best whiskey, this amazing coffee is meant to be drank black with no sugar or cream.
